The purpose of this educational project is to observe the owl nesting habits, nesting process and owl behavior in general. For this project I designed and built nesting box for the Tawny owl (Strix aluco), which nested in the vicinity last year. After leaving their nest owl chicks landed on local tree branches and "talk" to each other. In this clip, at 2:00, you can hear mother owl chatting with chicks. Sound was recorded with my mobile phone so it is not exactly H4n recorder quality.

Box is now mounted on really old pear tree. Hopefully owl will find this nest appropriate for her next generation. Fingers crossed for owl to move in soon. You can watch design and building process in this video. I haven’t draw any blueprints yet, but will do this in the future.

This page uses personal/non-commercial internet connection. Due to the technical limitations of my bandwidth and LAN infrastructure it only shows the image snapshot. I set the snapshot interval to 10 seconds.

Same goes for removal from the list. Motion detection is active every night from 22:00 until 7:00 in the morning. What's the weather outside the box at the moment?

In the future, if the founds allow (donators welcome :) ), I will stream live video/audio through some IP camera streaming service. I am thinking about ipcamlive. c o m. Note: At night you will see rim light reflection in the glass window. This is a reflection of IR LED's which are auto enabled through IR cut filter. This is most common problem at recording through the window for this kind of cameras and can be bypassed only by altering the camera circuits (which voids the warranty). I ordered separate IR light which will not reflect directly into the camera lens. I also ordered external microphone which is now implemented and enabled in the live feed.
